slope of a line

The *slope* of a line in the Cartesian plane $\mathbb{R}^2$ given, in the canonical coordinates $(x,y \;\colon\; \mathbb{R}^2 \to \mathbb{R})$ by the equation

$y = y_0 + s \cdot x$

is the factor $s$.
