George I. Kac (also spelled Kats) was an algebraist with contributions to noncommutative algebra, group rings, Hopf algebras, extensions of Tannaka-Krein duality etc. So called Kac algebras (especially suitable for Tannaka duality in certain generality) are named after him.

The standard monograph on Kac algebras is

  • M. Enock, J. M. Schwartz, Kac algebras and duality of locally compact groups, Springer-Verlag, 1992, , x+257 pp. gBooks, MR94e:46001
