Friedrich Wilhelm Bauer (1931-2019) was a German algebraic topologist. His students include Bernd Günther, Peter Mrozik, Claus Ringel and Wolfgang Metzler.
His contributions include study of stable homotopy theory, homology theories, bordism, categories of chain complexes, Quillen model categories, an original approach to shape theory and especially to strong shape theory.
